This brings up the question “Are the Detroit Lions the worst organization to play for?” What would make someone who still has years of good football left to play call it quits? How bad are the Detroit Lions that someone would rather quit playing the game they love than continue to play for their organization? Why would someone turn down a chance at making millions and millions of dollars?
This is not the first time we have seen this happen with the Lions. The great Barry Sanders shockingly hung up his cleats while many believed he was still in his prime. Just like Johnson, Sanders just called it quits out of the blue. No rhyme. No reason. Just gave up.
So are the Lions the worst organization to play for? With two players retiring in their early thirties, Sanders 31 and now Johnson 30. They have won one playoff game since 1957. Never mind winning a championship, they have never had a Superbowl appearance in their 86 year history. So taking those facts into consideration, you can make a strong case that the Detroit Lions are the worst organization to play for. Let’s hope for us fans of football and for the Lion’s organization, they can right their ship before they ruin another Stars’ illustrious career.
