Derek Jeter Finally Got His Night At Yankee Stadium

There are now no more single digit numbers left to be retired for the New York Yankees as on Mother’s Day evening at Yankee Stadium the #2 was officially retired for the Captain, Derek Jeter. Jeter, who played his entire career for the Yankees from 1996 to 2014, finally had his #2 placed behind the center field wall in monument park with the 20 other Yankee greats who have had their number retired. May 14th, 2017 will forever be known at Derek Jeter Night.

Let’s see what Twitter thought about this memorable night.

Apparently the Houston Astros didn’t get the memo that they were supposed to lose on Derek Jeter Night as they hit 3 homeruns in the top of the first inning and ended up winning the game 10-7. As someone who was born in Boston in 1983 and grew up through the heated Yankees/RedSox rivalry throughout the late 1990’s to early 2000’s, it’s very hard for me to like anything that has to do with the hated Yankees. But if there is anyone who dawned the pinstripes that was worthy of respect, it was Derek Jeter. He played the game the right way and was a class act on and off the field. And no one can argue that no matter what team you route for. However this was me to a T on Derek Jeter Night.
