Mike Schmidt Had Some Interesting Comments Concerning Odubel Herrera

Philadelphia Phillies Hall-of-Fame third baseman Mike Schmidt had some very interesting comments as it pertained to young Phillies phenom Odubel Herrera. On a radio interview Tuesday morning, Schmidt said he didn’t think his former team could build around Herrera because of the “language barrier.” After receiving some backlash for this comment, Schmidt offered an apology of sorts.

Let’s see what people were saying about Schmidt’s hot take.

Now a language barrier can make communication somewhat difficult but it does not disqualify you as a leader. Next time Schmidt might want to do a little research before making comments like this one. Herrera's first language is Spanish however he does speak a little English as well. Also there have been plenty of leaders on MLB teams that English was their second language. Like Jose Bautista, Albert Pujols, Robinson Cano, Adrian Beltre, Carlos Beltran, Salvador Perez, Yadier Molina, Miguel Cabrera, and David Ortiz. Just to name a few. So Schmidt probably should think twice before making assumptions like this.
