Less than a day after Mike Schmidt made some controversial comments about Philadelphia Phillies young phenom Odubel Herrera, former Boston RedSox and NESN broadcaster Jerry Remy made his own controversial comments about New York Yankees pitcher Masahiro Tanaka. During a mound visit, Remy expressed that he had an issue with Tanaka needing a translator. Remy said that he would make it illegal for translators to go to the mound and that foreign players should learn “baseball language.”
Let’s see what people thought of Remy’s comments.
Jerry Remy, everyone.
What a complete dumbass, such a stupid comment. pic.twitter.com/0ytOK7M6HT

Welp, Jerry Remy just got full on racist about Tanaka on the NESN broadcast. O'Brien trying hard to save it. Gah.

I'm getting a lot of "Jerry Remy is a racist" replies. I've listened to him forever. He's not a racist. It was a very unfortunate comment.

and let's be honest, Jerry Remy criticizing any other person's command of intelligible English is frankly appalling https://t.co/8jy6IRsE1E

Mike Schmidt: Man, no one is as racist/dumb as me...I'll be in the news for weeks
Jerry Remy: Hold my beer

Has Jerry Remy ever been a non-English speaker in U.S.? That's my question. I know I have and it sucks https://t.co/fq7ihXdPNi

I don't mind the translators going to the mound but still annoyed by PC obsessed Snowflakes whining about Jerry Remy right now. #RedSox

Jerry Remy doesn't think Tanaka's translator should be allowed to come to the mound. "Learn baseball language", he says. Yikes.

Mike Schmidt: I'm going to sound like somebody's racist uncle today.
Jerry Remy: Hold my beer. https://t.co/DCPQb9IqWo

Jerry Remy thinks it should be illegal for Tanaka's translator to come out with the pitching coach... this guy needs a nursing home

@Jerry_Remy you do remember that Koji Uehara utilized a translator? AND he was on our 2013 World Series team. But no big deal.

Jerry Remy just said he believes having a translator should be against the rules ....... pic.twitter.com/pFLjiuKMPN

I sincerely apologize to those who were offended by my comments during the telecast last night.

Not sure why Remy would make a statement like this. Apparently Remy has forgotten about former RedSox closer Koji Uehara who needed a translator. Remy has since apologized for his comments and the RedSox released a statement that they don't condone or agree with what Remy said.
