Oregon State is the best college baseball team in the land and they have been led this year by the best college baseball pitcher in the nation left-hander Luke Heimlich. Heimlich is having himself one hell of a season posting a 11-1 record and in 118 1/3 innings, he struck out 128, walked 22, did not allow a home run and posted a 0.76 ERA. Pretty impressive numbers to say the least. In fact many were projecting the the 6-foot-1, 200-pound lefty to be the first pick in the upcoming 2017 MLB draft. However, Heimlich’s stock has dropped and he has fallen off many MLB teams’ draft boards after recent news has come out that he is a convicted sex-offender. Word broke Thursday after an Oregonian report revealed that he pleaded guilty to molesting a 6-year-old girl when he was 15. In a guilty plea, Heimlich, now 21, said “I admit that I had sexual contact” with the girl, a cousin, at his home in Puyallup, Washington. Apparently this news got out because Heimlich had failed to file the necessary paperwork required of sex-offenders in the state of Oregon.
Let’s see what people were saying about this recent news about college baseball’s best pitcher.

This Luke Heimlich story is absolutely terrible. If he’s allowed to pitch and Vandy rolls deep, I hope their fans let him have it.

Between Addison Russell, Derek Norris, & Luke Heimlich, today has been a potentially despicable day for baseball and it’s not even noon yet

Luke Heimlich…..now that’s one sick bastard. Molesting his own 4-6 y/o family member. Just despicable

Apparently the Heimlich family was trying to keep this under wraps. Although multiple MLB teams already knew of Heimlich’s sex-offender status through background checks, according to major league sources, though it’s unclear whether it prompted his removal from their draft boards. Undoubtedly Heimlich will get the ball tonight when Oregon State takes on Vanderbilt at 9pm in the Super Regionals. I think it’s safe to say Heimlich might be a little distracted with the news of this dark cloud hovering over him. I don’t condone Heimlich’s actions but I would hope that people would show him some grace since we have all done something in our past that we regret. He has already been punished for his actions. He doesn’t need to receive anymore punishment from us.
