Yes you read that correctly. The 23 time Olympic gold medalist is tired of competing in the friendly confines of the Olympic waters and will now compete in the open waters against a shark. Phelps vs. Jaws…Who you got? Here is the story.
Michael Phelps is fast, but can he outswim a shark? The Olympian will help kick off Discovery’s Shark Week in July. “He is our greatest champion to ever get in the water: Michael Phelps. 39 world records. 23 Olympic golds. But he has one competition left to win,” a news release from the network reads. “An event so monumental no one has ever attempted it before. The world’s most decorated athlete takes on the ocean’s most efficient predator: Phelps V Shark — the race is on!” Phelps will appear in two specials, “Phelps vs. Shark: Great Gold vs Great White” and “Shark School with Michael Phelps.”

We've had world class sprinters race against horses before. So this only makes sense that we have come to this point. Right? So to get us ready for this race between Michael Phelps and a great white shark on Shark Week, here is a video of what it looks like to be chased by a great white. Enjoy.
