My high school baseball coach had us run a mile in practice as punishment for every mental mistake we had made in the previous baseball game. He didn’t really punish us for making physical mistakes because those are pretty much inevitable but mental mistakes, like missing a sign or failing to run the bases properly, that could be avoided were not tolerated. So in honor of my high school baseball coach here is a new segment called ‘Mental Error Monday’. In this segment we will talk about a mental error that was made by someone or some team that took place over the weekend in the world of sports. So without further ado, here is this weeks ‘Mental Error Monday’.
After this incident took place at the UFC Summer Kickoff press conference back in May, everyone was looking forward to this fight between Kevin Lee and Michael Chiesa. Well it finally went down in Oklahoma City last night and here is what it looked like.
What was the ref thinking right there stopping the fight? Granted it looked like Chiesa was either going to tap or was going out, but you have to make sure one of those things happens before you jump in and stop the fight. Obviously people weren’t too happy about how this fight ended. One of those people was UFC President Dana White and this is what he had to say about referee Mario Yamasaki’s premature stoppage of this anticipated main event.

I think we all echo Dana White’s words here. You just can’t let a fight end in a controversial fashion like that. Especially the main event. And especially a much anticipated main event like this one. After the fight both Lee and Chiesa verbally agreed to a rematch in their post fight interviews inside of the octagon. Hopefully these two can run it back again someday so that we can get the proper ending to this feud between the two fighters. Because this one has left us all with a sour taste in our mouths. You got to be better Mario Yamasaki. Here’s to you for ruining everyone’s night.
